PEEK is a high performance plastic with a continuous use temperature of 260°C (500°F),excellent friction and wear properties and excellent resistance to a wide range of chemical environments, even at elevated temperatures. Insoluble in most common solvents and being semi-crystalline has excellent resistance to a very wide range of organic and inorganic liquids, at elevated temperatures. It is highly stable and its composition and inherent purity of the material results in extremely low smoke and toxic gas emission in fire situations. PEEK can be used for thousands of hours at elevated temperatures in excess of 250°C (482°F) in steam or high water pressure environments without significant degradation in properties. Components that are constructed from these materials retain a high level of mechanical properties when continuously conditioned in water at elevated temperatures and pressures. PEEK is remarkably stable, resisting changes to its properties due to temperature, moisture, chemical attack or physical stress.
